The Green Man

The Green Man is here. Meet the Green Man and start collecting his quests. A quest will send you into the gardens to find out a little bit more about the fantastic plants that are out there just click on me.

Here are some examples of quests.

How to find the tree

From the Glass House make your way to the Lawn Aviary.

When you reach the Aviary take the path to your right.

This brings you to another path which is just above a bank of trees called the North American Bank. It is on this bank that you will find the Toothache tree.

Which tree is it?

Here are some hints. Look at the common name of the tree. What does that tell you about it?

It is not very tall. It usually only grows to about 3 metres. The tree you are looking for is only 2 metres tall.

The Quest

Please find the tree because I have very bad toothache. It is called the toothache tree because if you chew the bark it stops the toothache. It will also help my rheumatism and some blood circulation problems.

I want you find the proper name of the tree. And I want you to descibe the bark to me. Are the prickles small or large?

How do you find the Sequoia?

The Sequioa is a very special tree. In America some of them are almost 2000 years old. To find our Sequoia you will need to go to the Pinetum. The Pinetum is at the end of the Glass Houses, near the parrots.

The Quest

When you find the Botanical Gardens Sequoia we would like you to hug it. As you hug it feel the bark of the tree. How does it feel? The Sequoia in the picture above is a much older tree and it has survived countless forest fires. How has it done this? Let the Green Man know.
